Receding Chin
A receding chin, also referred to as Retrogenia, is a condition where the chin appears to slope backward toward the neck. While often attributed to genetics, a receded chin can also develop due to the natural ageing process in both men and women. This condition can sometimes result from an overbite or even be present from birth.
The jaw’s structure, composed of bone and soft tissue, significantly impacts its appearance and position. Over time, ageing can lead to a reduction in both bone density and tissue volume around the jaw, contributing to the development of Retrogenia in certain cases.
Understanding the causes of a receding chin, whether genetic or age-related, is the first step toward addressing this concern effectively.
