Smoker’s Lines
Smoker’s lines refer to the vertical lines that appear above the lips and extend toward the nose. These lines, often associated with repetitive facial movements and the natural ageing process, can also be caused or exacerbated by smoking. While smokers’ lip lines pose no direct health risks, they often lead to self-consciousness, as they can create an aged appearance.
The repeated puckering motion during smoking encourages the development of these lines, earning them their name. Additionally, the toxins in nicotine accelerate collagen breakdown, leading to premature formation of smokers lines on the face in some cases. However, non-smokers are not immune to these lines, as ageing and other factors like sun exposure or genetics can contribute to their appearance.
