Teeth Grinding
Teeth grinding, medically referred to as bruxism, is the unconscious clenching or grinding of teeth. This condition can occur during the day (awake bruxism) or at night (sleep bruxism). Grinding teeth in sleep is often classified as a sleep-related movement disorder, commonly linked with other sleep issues like snoring or sleep apnoea.
The causes of teeth grinding vary and may include stress, anxiety, or lifestyle factors such as excessive caffeine consumption or recreational drug use. Chronic bruxism can lead to jaw discomfort, headaches, migraines, and even dental problems. In such cases, consulting an orthodontist or specialist is highly recommended. Preventing teeth grinding involves addressing these underlying causes and adopting lifestyle changes to mitigate the condition.
